Myth 1: Mental health problems are rare.

Fact: Mental health issues are common. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 in 8 people globally live with a mental health condition. Issues like depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders affect millions of people, and they can happen to anyone, regardless of background, age, or gender.

Myth 2: People with mental illness are violent or dangerous.

Fact: The vast majority of people with mental health problems are not violent. In fact, they are more likely to be victims of violence rather than perpetrators. Media portrayals often sensationalize mental illness, reinforcing harmful stereotypes.

Myth 3: Mental health problems are a sign of weakness.

Fact: Mental illness is not a result of personal weakness. It is a medical condition, just like diabetes or heart disease. Mental health issues arise from a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors, and seeking help requires courage, not weakness.
